Title: ‘The Latest Dream I Ever Dreamt’
Rating: R, het
Pairings: Dean/Erika, Dean/Tessa
Warnings: SPOILERS THROUGH 5.11
Word count: ~3K
Disclaimer: Not mine, no profit.
Summary: Sam was wrong. It wasn’t a good dream.
a/n: title and epigraph from John Keats, “La Belle Dame Sans Merci.”
a/n: from a leftover prompt from the
hoodie_time fic challenge: Something causes season 5 Dean to have nightmares about hell again. While he handles it better than before, he tries to hide it from Sam. Sam finds out and is comforting (and gives him much needed hugs). I doubt this is what the prompter had in mind, especially re: the ratio of hurt to hugs. So, apologies in advance…

Title: Body Blows
Rating/genre: pg (pre-slash); h/c.
Word Count: ~2.5K
Disclaimer: not mine, no profit
a/n: set in a vaguely pre-movie, pre-Mary era.
a/n: beta’d by the wonderful
calamitycrow--thanks, as always, babe.
a/n: I started this for a prompt at the
sherlockkink meme for an overprotective Holmes. But then I completely lost track of the meme, and this morphed into a sequel to A Cold Night Out (though there’s no need to have read that one to understand this one).
a/n: I think I’ve gotten all the suffering!Watson out of my system now—I’m hoping the next H/W fic I write will be a lot peppier. If you know what I mean. And I think you do.
Summary: Holmes traced cool fingers across Watson’s brow. “Just memories,” he said, voice as light and dry as ever, “stirred by the fever. Just memories.”

So, the Sherlock Holmes movieverse seems to have eaten my brain for the past couple of weeks. I mean, I’d always suspected that Robert Downey Jr. as Holmes was going to be a treat, but who knew giving Jude Law a mustache, a sword-cane and an inconsistent limp was going to be such a boon to humanity? Or something like that.
I can’t say I’ve read exhaustively through the reams of fic that have been coming out, or even dipped into the impressive century's worth of previous stories (it was the first fandom, after all), but I wanted to pass on a few things I’ve enjoyed. Y’all probably know my tastes: hurt, then comfort, and then, apparently, in this case, sex.
The slash is working for me in this pairing more than it usually does. I blame RDJ and JL again—you just look at those guys and know they’ve done everything. Twice.

It looks like Haiti will need all the help the rest of the world can offer.
So, I've never done this before, but I've put an offer to write fic up for auction at
help_haiti here.
I'm offering 1-3K (maybe more) of SPN (gen, or Dean/Castiel), Merlin (gen) or Sherlock Holmes 09 (slash or gen)--tailored to your prompt (or not).
And, I forgot to say so on the post, but I'd also be happy to write J2 (up to an R rating) or a meta on an SPN or fanfiction issue of your choice.
OR, if there's anyone you feel really needs to meet the Winchesters, via a xover fic, let me know!
Look around at the site, though, there are a gazillion wonderful authors offering their services.
You have 'til Jan 20 to bid/offer stuff.

Title: The Things We Say With Our Hands
Pairing: Holmes/Watson
Rating: R
Genre: h/c
Word Count: 1,562
Disclaimer: Not mine, no profit
a/n: Written as a comment fic for
roque_clasique's birthday comment fic meme. Happy birthday, roque! The prompt was: Watson has trouble with his leg on a daily basis, and he tries to downplay it, to Holmes and to himself. Holmes, however, is too observant to miss anything, but he humors Watson and pretends he doesn't notice... but he's sneaky and makes everything easier for him, when he can. Who could resist!
a/n: Yes, the rating and pairing up there are not typos: this is actual, though very mild, slash--a first for me, and I am blushing like a Victorian maiden. Be gentle, 'kay? *runs and hides*
Summary: They never spoke of it.

Yup.
I feel like I left a lot of prompts here and there at the end of 2009, and didn't fill any. So, in the interests of reciprocity, or accountability, or something, I'm starting the new year off right by filling a prompt from the
afterthecold comment fic meme: Holmes, for whatever reason (falling into the Thames? getting knocked over the head by a villain? staying out too long on a case?) gets hypothermia. Watson has to warm him up. Optional misunderstanding with Mrs. Hudson entirely welcome.
There's no Mrs. Hudson, but a lot of PTSD!limping!Watson along with cold!Holmes--though that's not really the same thing at all, is it?
Never written in this fandom before...saw the movie, but haven't read the stories for years. Apologies in advance for any injuries to canon.

I don't know if y'all have seen the hypothermia!fic comment fic meme going on at

anniehow just posted a wonderful ficlet in response to my Merlin prompt. It's gen, and has wonderful bickering, imperious-yet-kinda-clueless!Arthur and sneaky-magic-using!Merlin, and, of course, enforced cuddling. Read it here .
And I'm sure there's room for a bunch more Merlin hypothermia fics, if anyone else feels so inclined!

I’ve been meaning to post these forever.
1. Everyone should meet the Winchesters
I didn’t have time to read as many of the fics posted for the
xover_exchange challenge as I would have liked, but here are a few of the SPN crossovers I enjoyed. If you enjoy crossover, though, you should go check out the whole site—there are some amazing combos—ones that made me wish I watched more TV.
SPN/X-Files
Monsters vs. Aliens by
strangevisitor7
Bobby and Mulder are old friends. If that isn’t canon, it should be!
SPN/Star Trek
Balance of Terror (and Zombies) by
jaune_chat and
brighteyed_jill
Authors’ summary: Sam, Dean, and Castiel encounter some mysterious strangers, one of whom is experiencing some scarily familiar symptoms.. I’ll just add that this fic goes a long way towards redeeming one of my least favorite SPN episodes.
SPN/Dollhouse
Stolen Soul by
jaune_chat
Author’s summary: Dean is stolen and taken to the Dollhouse to prevent him from ever fulfilling his destiny. Sam has to try to find him while he and Castiel attempt to avert Apocalyptic signs from destroying the city. Meanwhile, the inhabitants of the Dollhouse find their newest member may have more to him than his story suggests.
I don’t know anything about Dollhouse except the premise, but this is a great SPN S5 fic.

Hey, thanks for the virtual snowflake cookies, folks!
The snow that apparently fell on much of the South over the weekend skipped NC--but snowflake cookies are much better, IMHO.
Speaking of gifts and food: does anyone have any favorite covered dish recipes they'd be willing to share?
I never manage to do much volunteering, or to show up for "garden" days at the school, etc., but I do try to bring a meal for people/families in situations where that's helpful (new babies, illness, etc.).
One of the preschool moms had some kind of major surgery, and I got assigned tomorrow for food--which meant I didn't have time for my usual things, which involve the slow-cooker. Someone at work hooked me up with a veggie mac-n'-cheese thing, which looks okay, now that I've made it, but it made me realize I need more of a repertoire for this kind of thing...
Got something that's easy, delicious, and always works?
Vegetarian preferred--or at least something that doesn't mix dairy and meat. I don't keep kosher myself, but a lot the people and places I end up bringing food to do...
Thanks!

Summary: The title pretty much says it all. And this:
“Thought we were doubling the watch tonight?” Dean said, after a minute.
“He nodded off.” Arthur gestured towards Merlin, who was indeed fast asleep, propped against his saddle, head canted back and mouth open. “Not used to hard marches. I’ll wake him in a bit.”
The darkness, or the isolation, or maybe what they’d seen together in the smallpox hut, seemed to have released Arthur from the shell of brusque arrogance he usually wore, and Dean could hear the warmth in his voice when he spoke of Merlin—a rough, protective affection that rang a chord in his own chest.
