Neal-Peter
A really, really instant reaction, and not particularly well-thought through.

Okay, I couldn’t warm up to the epic Neal/Kate love, but I quite enjoyed the flashback ep. And I have to say this: I have watched a lot of slashy episodes of a lot of slashy shows, but, despite the heaping serving of het canoodling we got here, this one had to be in the top five.

Because really, Peter, since when do you show up for a professional debriefing after finding out your CI has a history with the chief suspect with a six-pack and a bottle of wine? And tell your singlet-clad CI that you’re going to spend the night—all night--drinking together? And a bit later on lean over the parapet with your elbows touching watching the New York City pre-dawn? Yeah. There’s only one reason you do that stuff. ‘Cause the information? That you could get over a cappuccino.

And, on a creepier note, wasn’t it kind of clear that Mozzie was sending Neal in seduce Adler? Why else would he have given Neal that once over and told him he looked better for the part? Which basically involved what? Getting Adler to the point where he was buying Neal bespoke suits. Maybe I’m missing something about the world of high finance, but that doesn’t seem like the kind of thing you routinely do for your junior employees (think how we would have felt if we’d seen him buying Kate a $10K dress? ) The whole thing seemed to only work as a sex scam….

And that’s all without even mentioning Peter triumphantly sucking on Neal’s lollipop there at the end. No. Really.

Other than that, floppy-haired!occasionally-unsure!Neal was adorable (as adorable as baby!Satchmo)

Alex was fun (and MB’s girl-kissing has much improved since the first season).

I love that Neal likes to dance around naked after sex.

  • I love that Neal likes to dance around naked after sex.

i so wish i was neal's neighbor during that scene XD
  • Duh, I still have to see this episode... _o_ I hate not having time.
    • Oh, I sympathize! I am usually not as caught up as this! Hope you have some time to see it soon--it's pretty fun!
  • Love Peter/Neal, don't love Kate/Neal. I just do not understand the relationship, and this episode didn't make it any clearer. She just didn't seem like she cared that much about Neal, so I have a hard time understanding why Neal cared that much about her.
    • No--she is just that a plot device: it's necessary for Neal to have this big romantic attachment to someone, so there she is. But having her there just seemed to point out how much more fun and interesting (and sexy) his relationships with Peter and Mozzie and Alex are/were....

Peter and Neal, however--in both the present and the past--were adorable together!
  • It was glorious, except for how Kate remains a 2 dimensional cipher but since all the other women on the show are fantastic I can wave it off. The real porblem is it lessens Neal's story--we need to like and relate to her for Neal's grief to resonate.

The parapet drinking, talking all night. I can't even. The way it was lit and filmed. The show ships Neal and Peter so hard.

interesting point about the subtext re: Adler.
    • The show does ship them! And they are so sweet together--really, I could have watched them staying up all night drinking and talking about mortgage fraud, they were that cute:)

And you're right--the show has such great female characters--Elizabeth and Diana and I like Alex and now Sara--it just seems to have a blind spot about Kate. But it's pretty much moot, I guess, they seem to have promised not to resurrect her.
  • Hello there, guess who's all caught up on this new show now? ;-)

I couldn’t warm up to the epic Neal/Kate love The viewers really know nothing about Kate, except that there's shared history between her and Neal, and that Neal has done stupid things for her sake, and that he considers her the love of his life (which... hey, I do believe we learned all that in the pilot!) I think the point is that, like the viewers, Neal never really knew Kate; he was in love with the idea of her more than anything and, either the actress is really wooden and one-note, or Kate just wasn't that much into Neal. Her expression is particularly flat when she tells him she loves him in the end.

The whole thing seemed to only work as a sex scam You know, I thought the suit moment was creepy too! Esp when Adler (LOL, I just noticed while typing this, ADLER! As in, Irene Adler?) commented on the length of the pant leg. There was a moment where I boggled at the screen and thought he was going to start taking measurements himself or sumsuch handsy thing!
    • Hey there! *waves at you* I'm so glad you started watching White Collar! I take it the fact that you got all the way through means you're enjoying it?

he was in love with the idea of her more than anything
Yes--that sums it up entirely! The actress is in the Percy Jackson movie, and she's not fabulous, but she's a bit more fun--she gets to be more action-y. So it seems as if she's party been directed to stand around and look moony....

There was a moment where I boggled at the screen and thought he was going to start taking measurements himself or sumsuch handsy thing!
Yes! with the pants legs. And Neal changing clothes right there in the office. Creepy (or kinky, I guess). When Neal said "he made me the man I am today"--I thought, wow--gave you your taste for older guys?

Still, mostly the episode was a blast, as was last week's!
